Mental Health

I welcome everyone to a session of talking a little bit about mental health - but it's not just depression but every other emotion that you and I feel that leaves us feeling uneasy and reckless.

I am Rutuja, a student of MIT WPU, studying Media and Communication and taking advantage of my academic learnings to share my ideas with you guys through this platform.

Now I know everybody talks about taking care of your mental well being these days and everyone is smart enough to know that but sometimes, in this fast track life, we get so busy with our academics, our social hangouts, our family conflicts, our future plans and our past traumas that we forget to sit for a moment and think about US.

I want to focus this blog specifically towards my generation and thats because me being that age too, I know every other person right now is suffering through some or the other emotion. For instance, being neglected in the family, the pressure of acing academics, different kinds of peer pressure, trying to fit in with everybody, trying to make friends, planning your future, looking for job, financial responsibilities and what not!

But I guess thats what adulting is, right!

But thats alright because together we can get through anything. From my personal experience, I observed that one thing everybody is looking for today is being loved. And why shouldn't they? Love is the core of being a human, thats what keeps us alive and not just alive but keeps us going forward with a smile on our faces. That being said my one request to everybody would be to be kinder to yourself and everybody wound you too. When you see worth in yourself, when you love yourself first, you start considering everybody else's feelings too because you wouldn't want somebody else hurting you either.

In this generation where everybody seems selfish and materialistic, you need to make sure you are surrounded by people that clap so hard for you that  you wont notice who doesnt.
In my opinion you would rather hang out with 2 people that want to see you genuinely succeed than hang out with 10 people that silently pray for your downfall.

I am a big believer of ''you are what you eat'' so try to maintain a healthy diet and eat food that freshens up your mood. Another important thing to take care of is your sleep cycle. Today we stay up late at night using our mobile phones and it ruins our sleep cycle and peace of mind completely so a decent sleep cycle of 7-8 hours is very essential.  Exercising and meditating is very helpful also as it calms your mind down and think about your entire day at the end of it and be grateful for everything you got to do today.

Indulge in therapy. Therapy will help you take a deep insight into what causes you to feel a certain way and what you can do next time to avoid it and handle situations a little better. It helps you to realize that responding to situations is better than reacting to them.

Create a hobby that will help you relax your mind and focus on something entirely positive and something that is in no way harmful.  Giving your adrenaline a rush is very important and helpful once in a while.

One last thing I would say is be confident and be hopeful that things will get better one day and they will only get better if you start willingly working on them. Everyday begins with you and ends with you so try not to be so hard on yourself because as long as you have yourself nobody can take your peace away from you.

That's it for this one, I hope this blog helped.
